The Intersex Justice Project (IJP) is a grassroots organization founded by three intersex people of color in 2016. We founded IJP to advance the leadership of intersex people of color in addition to challenging the treatment of intersex people by the medical establishment. In collaboration with social justice organizations based in Chicago and New York City, we have planned several actions to amplify our campaign to #endintersexsurgery. Right now, we are in a moment of reflection and expansion and are seeking a consultant to help us plan for the future.
We are looking for someone who is emotionally depthful, personable and has a solid history of meeting and exceeding goals. The ideal candidate would have experience working with collectives and organizations that embody a nonhierarchical model of leadership. Here is a list of other things we are seeking in a candidate:
- Campaign experience: Right now, IJP has a campaign against Lurie Children’s Hospital in Chicago calling for the end of cosmetic, normalizing surgeries on intersex infants and children. As part of campaign development, we want someone who can help us with strategy, member outreach, goal setting, increasing community buy-in, and expanding the campaign to other cities.
- Organizational development: IJP has a collective and collaborative spirit. We don’t have formal offices or positions and the work mostly falls on the two co-founders Saifa and Pidgeon. We are interested in someone who can help us think about creating an internship program, developing metrics of success, retreat planning and a transition plan for future leadership.
- Fundraising experience: With a generous grant from the Third Wave Fund, we are able to do more things that we have not done in the past such as secure a consultant and work on projects that we care about. We are seeking a consultant who is aware of the funding landscape and can help us navigate grant applications and funders.
- Digital Strategy: On our own, we have grown our social media presence, but how can we continue to grow? What can you offer us in terms of maintaining our online presence? What would be your plan for web outreach?
Candidates should submit their applications by March 20th, 2020.
IJP is asking interested candidates to submit a detailed action plan in addition to an hourly rate and 2-3 references.
Applications should be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
